Can you believe it? I got a PSP for Christmas. Yes, this cat was completely shocked and overwhelmed. In fact, it was the furthest from anything I even expected. That’s the good news! Now the bad news — I’ve got a MAC! And so I’ve come to find yet another really cool device that is NOT natively Mac friendly - but it’s a good thing the Mac is device friendly!
The first thing to do was to install the new (well, latest) firmware update. Now there are some folks who are upset that they can’t run any homebrew apps (applications that aren’t signed/legitimately from SONY) anymore, but gee folks … honesty is the best policy! And I’m one of those folks that actually buy music online and don’t use warez. So many thanks to Ask Dave Tylor for his help on connecting your PSP to the Mac– it’s really just a "duh" simple job. By using his instructions with the official PSP update instructions I’ve copied the EBOOT.PBP file to the "PSP>GAME>UPDATE" folder. And yes, capitalization does matter!
For those wanting a more integrated application, PSPWare is looking really cool! It syncs with your iTunes library, iPhoto collections, Bookmarks (Safari and Firefox), optimizes ALL Mac format video files for the PSP, and allows you to record live radio stations for on-the-go action — and it’s all for $15.
There’s also PocketMac PSP which notes supporting PSP syncing, too. It allows for syncing of iPhoto, iTunes, and contacts (Address Book & Entourage). It runs for $10 as an introductory time only, but I’m not a big fan of the PocketMac software or the site, but that’s me speaking.
