Big Nerd Ranch: Graduation!

Whew … I’ve got to admit that out of all the programming workshops and training events I’ve been to this has HANDS DOWN got to be one of the most intensive courses I’ve ever been a part of (yes, I know I’ve ended a sentence with a preposition)! The course instructor Aaron Hillegas is the author of the book Cocoa Programming for Mac OSX (undoubtedly THE resource for learning Cocoa...

It’s official – Mac OSX is running on a PC!

You’ve heard the announcement from last June’s Apple World Wide Developers Conference (I was there, baby!) that Apple is now powering it’s systems with Intel Processors. With the onset of that announcement many developers (including myself) have speculated that this opens a great door for allowing Apple software on PC based boxes. (Yes, I know Steve Jobs and the Apple team may not necessarily...

Cocoa Bootcamp – Day 2

First of all, I found out the cat’s name was Captain Macintosh. Let me say it again so you don’t think I mistyped those 16 letters – Captain Macintosh. (That’s the language for building applications for Mac OSX 10.x – not the cold weather chocolate beverage.) The course is being taught by Aaron Hillegass, author of "Cocoa Programming for Mac OSX"....

Cocoa Bootcamp – Day 1

You ever tried to on one of those "one size fits all" hats on your head only to find out that your head wasn’t included in the "all" they sized the thing to fit? You know the feeling you had around the circumference of your cerebrum after trying to put it on when you know you shouldn’t have tried to put it on anyway? (ughh … this is, of course, PURELY speculation.) Well,...

New Apple Store coming to Raleigh

If you’re living over on the east side of Durham (boy, that sounds deep) or in Raleigh you won’t have to tread all the way over to SouthPoint any more to get your Apple fix. Apparently, Apple is planning on opening a new store at CrabTree Valley Mall (or the vacinity) sometime in the near future. Me thinks it will be sometime in spring 2006.

“Pimped up” Safari Plugins

So if you’re on a PC, FireFox is definitely the newness in regard to browsers. Without wanting to get into a religious discussion about IE vs Firefox, I just prefer — and suggest — Firefox to my PC peeps. But on a Mac, you actually have a choice! You can use Firefox or Safari — both of which are actually pretty good. I have both installed and use both for testing and development. If you’ve...
